Location – Melbourne, Australia
First Grand Prix – 1996
Number of Laps – 58
Circuit Length – 5.303 km
Race Distance – 307.574 km
When was the track built?
The deal for the Australian Grand Prix was done and dusted in 1993. The circuit is a street circuit that features cities’ existing roads around Albert Park. It also features Aughtie Drive and Lakeside Drive. It also features a little detour through the Lakeside Stadium’s car park.
When was its first Grand Prix?
Just four months after Adelaide had held its last Australian Grand Prix in 1995, the teams were back in Melbourne for its first Grand Prix in 1996. That race is remembered because of the crash of Martin Brundle. He was driving his Jordan when he launched himself off the back of Johnny Herbert’s Sauber at Turn 3.
