Men’s Singles
Lakshya Sen vs Loh Kean Yew
The much awaited contest for the day will be between Lakshya Sen and Loh Kean Yew. Lakshya Sen haven’t enjoyed much success in the BWF Tour so far this year. He bowed out from the first round at Malaysia Open, German Open and Swiss Open. His best performance was reaching the quarterfinal at Indonesia Masters.
Loh Kean Yew started the season with successive quarterfinal appearances at Malaysia Open and India Open. However he failed to go past the second round in next three tournaments. He last played at the All England Open and bowed out from the first round in the BWF 1000 event.
Kidambi Srikanth will begin his campaign by facing Bahrain’s Adnan Ebrahim in the first round. Srikanth enters the contest as the overwhelming favourite. Both the players will meet for the first time in the tour. HS Prannoy will begin his campaign as an overwhelming favourite. He will take on 277th ranked Phone Pyae Naing in the first round.
Women’s Singles
PV Sindhu vs Wen Chi Hsu
Following her runner-up finish at the Madrid Masters, PV Sindhu will be back i n action at the Asia Badminton Championships. Sindhu won silver in the last edition and she aims to go one better this time. She begins her campaign by facing Wen Chi Hsu in the first round.
Wen Chi Hsu is ranked 17th in the world. She last played at the Orleans Masters and bowed out from the first round. The best performance of the Taiwanese was semifinal appearance at the Thailand Masters.
Aakarshi Kashyap will begin her campaign by facing 56th ranked Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi in the first round. Meanwhile, Malvuka Bansod will face top seed Akane Yamaguchi.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty vs Tan Kian Meng/Tan Wee Kiong
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are the sixth seed in the tournament. They will be facing Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng and Tan Wee Kiong in the first round. The Indian duo enter the contest as the favourite. They won the Swiss Open title earlier this year. The Indian pair will face the Malaysian duo for the first time.
India’s PS Ravikrishna and Sankar Prasad Udayakumar, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila and Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala will also be in action in their respective first round matches.
Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand vs Lanny Mayasari/Ribika Sugiarto
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will kickstart their Asia Badminton Championships by facing Indonesia’s Lanny Mayasari and Ribika Sugiarto. The Indian duo’s best peformance this year is reaching the semifinal at All England Open. They are aiming to make a deep run in the tournament.
World No.34 Lanny Mayasari and Ribika Sugiarto enter the tournament after reaching the semifinal at Orleans Masters 2023. This will be the second time both the pairs will be facing each other. The Japanese pair lead the head-to-head record 1-0 against the Indian duo.
Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam and Haritha Manazhiyil and Ashna Roy will also be in action in their respective first round matches in the Women’s Doubles.
