• Sindhu has made a terrific comeback after a poor start to the season this year. She is now aiming to become the first Indian to win a title in the Madrid Masters Super 300 tournament.
• Before entering Madrid, Sindhu did not manage to go past the second round in any of the tournament that she played so far in the year.
• Her dismal performances made her drop down from the Top 10 in the world rankings for the first time in seven years.
• With fire in her belly, Sindhu began her campaign at Madrid with a 21-10, 21-14 victory against Jenjira Stadelman.
• In the second round, she met Putri Kusuma Wardani and sailed past the Indonesian 21-14, 21-16 to reach her first quarterfinal of the season.
• Sindhu continued her good form in the next two matches as she defeated Mia Blichfeldt 21-14, 21-17 in the quarterfinal.
• In the semifinal, she defeated Yeo Jia Min 24-22, 22-20 to set up clash against Gregoria Maria Tunjung in the final.

• Gregoria Maria Tunjung is the fifth seed in the tournament. She kickstarted her campaign with a 21-19, 21-12 win against Kirsty Gilmour in the first round.
• She was almost at the verge of a loss in the second round against South Korea’s Kim Ga-eun. However, she held her nerves and clinched a 12-21, 21-14, 23-21 win against the Korean to enter the quarterfinal.
• She had it easy in the quarterfinal as she raced to a 21-10, 21-17 win against Line Christophersen.
• In the semifinal, she faced her biggest challenge against home favourite Carolina Marin. Against the Spaniard the Indonesian lost the first game. She however fought back and clinched a 10-21, 21-15, 21-10 victory to book spot in the final.

Sindhu vs Tunjung Head-to-Head: Sindhu is dominating the head-to-head record against the Indonesian. Both the players have met seven times in the past and in all the matches, Sindhu has tasted victories. Their most recent meeting came last year at the Indonesia Masters and Sindhu had to fight had to fight hard as she sealed a 23-21, 20-22, 21-11 win. In the big final yet again a close contest is set to be on the cards.
