Yoane Wissa was quite the danger for Spurs in their match against Brentford. During the first half of the game, in the hopes of stopping the player from progressing with the ball, Tottenham Hotspur’s midfielder Yves Bissouma swoops in and makes a horrific foul. He came from behind and swept Wissa from the floor while being nowhere near the ball. Such a foul would’ve seen a red card in many cases. However, referee Jarred Gillett only awarded a yellow card to Bissouma for the foul.

Netizens could not help but wonder about the similarities between this foul and the one made by the Manchester United star Casemiro a few weeks ago against Southampton. Casemiro’s foul on Carlos Alcaraz on that day was awarded by an instant red card and he also served a 4-game suspension following the foul. Netizens were surprised to see how Bissouma escaped the red card. One fan said, “Should be a red for Bissouma. Casemiro got a red for the same tackle.”

Another fan wrote, “Bissouma, Mings and Lewis Cook all getting away with tackles today that Casemiro would 100% be sent off for.” A third fan wrote, “Wonder what VAR decision would be if Casemiro made that Bissouma challenge.” The fans even noticed that the chief of Professional Game Match Officials Limited, Howard Webb looked concerned after the decision taken by the referee as he was watching from the stands and scribbling something on a piece of paper.

Bissouma transferred to Tottenham Hotspur at the start of this season from Brighton on a £30 million deal. However, since his arrival, he has not clicked at the club because of poor early performances and injuries. He has only appeared in only 9 Premier League matches for Spurs. His last appearance before this game against Brighton came back on January 1 which also resulted in a defeat against Aston Villa. Bissouma had not turned heads with his performance before.

However, he became the centre of attention today because of all the wrong reasons. Spurs’ string of misfortune remains to continue as they lost this match as well. Harry Kane took the lead 8 minutes into the game as Spurs remained 1-0 up for over 40 minutes more into the game when Bryan Mbeumo scored a brace for Brighton and took the lead. A goal from Yoane Wissa then sealed Spurs’ fate in the 88th minute. Spurs might have lost all hopes of qualifying for European competition next year with this defeat.
