India vs Australia Highlights: India Women end three-match Hockey series vs Australia with 1-1 draw

The Indians have played three games against Australia. While they lost the first two matches 2-4 and 2-3, they came from behind in the third game to ensure a 1-1 result. In their final two games of the tour, the visitors will face Australia ‘A’ here on Thursday and Saturday.

The Indian team demonstrated brilliant attacking prowess in all three games, but they struggled to keep Australia from scoring goals. They might yet again face challenge from the Australia A attacker in the upcoming two matches.

Speaking on the eve of the match, India’s vice-captain Deep Grace Ekka said the focus would be on defence and not conceding easy goals. “Given that we played against a strong team like Australia, we produced a good show in the first three games, especially attacking-wise, but we conceded quite a few goals, which shouldn’t be happening,” Ekka said.

“Hence, we are focusing on improving our defending in the next two games and ending our tour on a high by winning the remaining matches.”

The upcoming two matches will also help India test their bench strength. This series serves as a test for the upcomng Asian Games and it would help Indian analyse their game going into the multinational event.

While Savita will lead the side, Defender Deep Grace Ekka will be her deputy. Experience Gurjit Kaur will lead the defence alongside Ekka. The defence also has Nikki Pradhan, Ishika Chaudhury and Udita.

In the midfield, Salima Tete, Navneet Kaur, Nisha, Monika, Sonika, Jyoti and Baljeet Kaur are named in the squad. The forward will be spreaheaded by striker Vandhana Katariya. Lalremsiami, Sangita Kumari and Sharmila Devi will also be part of the Indian attack.
