SRH Playing XI vs MI: With nothing to lose, Sunrisers Hyderabad will aim to finish their season on a high. While the absence of Umran Malik was baffling against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Jammu Express is set to return on a fast-paced high scoring Wankhede Stadium against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. But there could also be chances for some of the benchwarmers as captain Aiden Markram and coach Brian Lara have announced. Follow MI vs SRH in IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
A hat-trick of losses has dashed Hyderabad’s hopes of qualifying for playoffs. They can play spoilsport. But considering the performances SRH have put up so far, it is unlikely they can defend any total or even chase down a big score.

But as Wankhede Stadium will once again have a red-soil bouncy pitch, seamers will have the edge. Umran Malik, who has been a bits-and-pieces player this season after an excellent IPL 2022, is likely to return even as an Impact sub. The pacer has featured in only 7 games this season out of a possible 13, taking only five wickets at an economy rate of 10.35.
Looking beyond his high economy rate, the express pacer does come with an X-Factor. But even captain Aiden Markram is clueless why Umran has not played any games in May.
“Not too sure to be honest. Certainly, he’s a player with the X factor, bowls at 150kph, but I don’t really what’s about behind the scenes but he has a lot of X factor,” Markram said at the toss against RCB in the last match.
SRH started with Kartik Tyagi instead of Umran and he bowled just 1.2 overs. But after a lackluster performance of the entire bowling unit, Brian Lara is ready to test the bench.
“This game tomorrow and the previous game, you want to see players come out, so we are relaxed in our selection policy and still put a team out on the park that will compete. I don’t think we shuffled too much unnecessarily. We played the best 12 that we could find. We have to learn from and it’s not a great idea to think about what went wrong,” Brian Lara said ahead of MI clash.
SRH Playing XI vs MI: What to expect from Sunrisers Hyderabad?
- The inconsistency in selections has been the biggest problem of SRH throughout the season.
- Harry Brook has opened the innings, batted at No 4 and at 5.
- In fact, SRH are yet to find a stable opening partnership.
- But Brook is likely to continue as a finisher after bottling his chances at the top.
- Rahul Tripathi opened the innings with Abhishek Sharma against RCB. But there is no guarantee that the pair will remain untouched.
- The middle-order too has gone through extensive shuffling to the point that it is almost impossible to predict who all will feature.
- But captain Aiden Markram is likely to survive the chop and change despite a disappointing season.
- In the bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s form has gone downhill. But considering the swing on offer at the Wankhede, he will be key along with someone like Marco Jansen.
