Novak Djokovic vs Juan Pablo Varillas
Novak Djokovic has made a perfect start to his campaign in the French Open 2023. The third seed clinched straight set wins in the first three rounds. He defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic, Marton Fucsovics and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the three matches. He yet again enters as the overwhelming favourite against Juan Pablo Varillas in the fourth round.
Juan Pablo Varillas will be in action in his first-ever fourth round contest at the French Open. He became the first Peruvian to reach the last-16 at Roland Garros since 1994. He defeated He defeated opponents like qualifier Shang Juncheng, 19th seed Roberto Bautista Agut and 13th seed Hubert Hurkacz, all in five sets, so far in the tournament.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Lorenzo Musetti
In a battle of youngsters, World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz will face in-form 17th seed Lorenzo Musetti in a blockbuster fourth round contest at the French Open 2023. Top seed Alcaraz began the contest with a dominating straight set win against Flavio Cobolli. He then dropped a set against Taro Daniel before clinching a four set win. In the third round he was at his best against Denis Shapovalov with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win and looks to continue his form.
Lorenzo Musetti has reached the fourth round at the French Open for the second time in his career. The 21-year old has been in terrific form in the tournament. He sailed past opponents like Mikael Ymer, Alexander Shevchenko and 14th seed Cameron Norrie in straight sets so far. Both the players met once in the ATP Tour in the past and Musetti has a 1-0 record Alcaraz.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Sebastian Ofner
Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is aiming to clinch his third successive straight set win in the tournament. After beginning his campaign with a four-set win against Jiri Vesely, the Greek improved his show in the tournament. He defeated Roberto Carballes Baena and Diego Schwartzman in straight sets and now faces Sebastian Ofner in the fourth round.
Sebastian Ofner has made it to the fourth round at a Grand Slam event for the first time in his career. He made it to the main draw in the tournament this year after playing in the qualifiers. In the first round he defeated Maxime Cressy in straight sets. He then faced another American in Sebastian Korda in the second round and clinched a 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 win. He then beat Fabio Fognini in a nail-biting five-setter to set up clash against Tsitsipas.
Women’s Singles
Daria Kasatkina vs Elina Svitolina
Ninth seed Daria Kasatkina has dominated in all the matches that she has played in the tournament so far. She began the campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Jule Niemier. In the next two rounds, she dropped just eight games and sealed straight set wins against Marketa Vondrousova and Peyton Stearns.
Elina Svitolina began the campaign by defeating 26th seed Martina Trevisan in straight sets. In the next two matches, she clinched come-from-behind wins against Storm Sanders and Anna Blinkova. The Ukranian will next face Russian Svitolina for a spot in the quarterfinal.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Sloane Stephens
Second seed Aryna Sabalenka has made a perfect start to her French Open campaign. The Belarusian sailed past Marta Kostyuk, Iryna Shymanovich and Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets. She next faces the experienced Sloane Stephens.
Former finalist Stephens clinched a 6-0, 6-4 victory against 16th seed Karolina Pliskova to begin her campaign in the tournament this year. She next defeated Varvara Gracheva in straight sets. In the third round, she won in three sets against Yulia Putintseva to reach the fourth round. Sabalenka leads 3-0 in the head-to-head record against Sloane Stephens.
