- The 31-year old last achieved the feat way back in 2014 when he made it to the final at the Vietnam Open and Indonesia Masters.
- Throughout the Australian Open so far, Prannoy had to dig deep to clinch victories.
- He defeated Lee Cheuk Yiu, Chi Yu Jen and top seed Anthiny Ginting in three games in the first two rounds and quarterfinal.
- However in the semifinal, playing against compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat, he sealed a dominant 21-18, 21-12 victory.
- Prannoy is eyeing his career’s second Super 500 title.
Weng Hong Yang to fight for first title in 2023
- Weng Hong Yang has an opportunity to avenge his Malaysian Masters loss against Prannoy as he finished as runner-up in the tournament.
- Like Prannoy, the Chinese will also be in action in his second final in the tour this year.
- Weng Hong Yang began his campaign at the Australian Open by knocking out second seed Kodai Naraoka.
- The unseeded Chinese ousted the second seed with a 21-19, 21-11 victory.
- In the second round, he clinched a come-from-behind 16-21, 21-10, 21-9 victory.
- He then pulled off another upset with a 21-10, 21-16 win against Chou Tien Chen.
- In the semifinal, he had to play three games and prevailed against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia.
- Having knocked out two seeded players, Yang hopes to come out on top against the World No.9 Indian.
Prannoy vs Yang Head-to-Head: Their meeting at the Malaysian Masters earlier this year has been their only meeting in the BWF Tour so far. Prannoy won the contest and hopes to extend his lead against the World No.24.
